GM bentonite
GM bentonite is used as an ingredient of mixes for the building of anti-filtration barriers. Due to its excellent sealing properties it makes a good component of bentonite mats. The high content of montmorillonite ensures its good viscosity and perfect bonding. It is characterised by very good water absorption – the bentonite swells easily and makes quick bonding and sealing possible.
As a component of a mixture, it permits the creation of a barrier which can be of any thickness and vibration-resistant. In contrast, a bentonite mat is used mainly as a waterproof barrier to protect the ground and underground water. Bentonite in the form of a mat is placed between two sheets of geofabric to make it flexible and impervious to the aggressive action of underground water.
